Highlights of Hispanic Heritage/Talk Like a Pirate Day Read Aloud at Barnes & Noble in St. Lucie West, PSL, Fl on Saturday, September 19, 2026.
Synopsis: Joseph and Jacob love hearing bedtime stories about pirates. One day their father uses the opportunity to teach them a lesson on loyalty, generosity, and the warmhearted nature of Puerto Rican culture by reading them a story of Roberto Cofresi. He is considered a Puerto Rican Hero for helping the people of Puerto Rico during a time of famine in the 1800s.
The Read Aloud took place at noon and was well attended by the local families and children. I engaged the children by teaching them bilingual pirate phrases and asking questions throughout the story. Their favorite part of the story was when the boys went on a treasure hunt.
After the Read Aloud, there was a book signing, childrenβs activities, and treats. The kids enjoyed choosing pirate names, creating Popsicle stick pirates, and receiving official pirate certificates. It was Arrr fun day!
